The first thing you see in the route of the eye is the title of the article. I feel this is the first thing you see because this is the most important text on the page. The text is in white and the background is a deep pink. I feel this article is aimed more at females so they use the pink to attract them. The whole title is in capital letters this is because they want it to stand out. Her name is bolder than the rest on the title. This is because this is who the article is about and she is also a big R&B icon so when people will see the name they will want to read about her. By the title you can understand that it is going to be an interview. They have made it an interview as the audience then know she is saying it and not just the press so they will want to read the article more if they know Nelly has been saying it herself. Underneath the title it explain what type of music Nelly had done so again this will make a larger audience. She has mainly done R&B though. The next thing you see in the route of the eye is two pictures of Nelly in the past when she was doing different genres. I feel they have showed this to show how different Nelly looks now and what type of person she looks. Also I feel it is trying to show that people change as they get older. Also by having old pictures attract more people as they will want to see what she looked like when she was a little bit younger and if she has changed much. The next thing you see in the route of the eye in the primary optical area is the picture of Nelly Furtado. This picture is taking up most of the double page spread. They have done this because they want this is stand out the most on the page and by doing this they have made the image large and dominate. Nelly is also very pretty so girls will want to look like her and dress like her, and boys will find her attractive so boys will want to read about her. The image follows the conventions as she it looking directly at the camera. The reason they have done this is so that she is connecting more with the audience and also makes it look more effective. As people look up to Nelly and want to be like her they will want to be like her and wear what she wears and have there hair like hers, The next thing you see in the route of the eye in the terminal are is another picture of her when she was younger. I feel they have separated this image from the other two and she looks the worse here, On the image it says ‘ She was young she didn’t know better, Ok?’ I feel this is making a joke out of it and the audience then laugh and how everyone dressed like this as all celebrities and people just want to wear the latest fashion. The next thing you see in the terminal area is a question saying “How did you feel about people criticising you for ‘going urban’?” I feel they have put this question in the terminal area because this is when she decided that she wanted to do R&B music, so her fans then realised that she did get criticised for it and this will make people feel sorry four her. The 1st and 4th hotspots are aimed on the large recent image of Nelly. I feel they have put these hotspots here so everyone can see what she looks like now and how she has changed and how pretty she is so people will then look up to her and want to be like her. The 2nd and 3rd hotspots are on the older pictures of her. I feel these are in the other hotspots to show how much she has changed and how she did go through different stages of genre but she has now decided what one she wants to stay with because now she is old enough to make the decision. The colour scheme they have chosen was deep pink, white and black. I feel they chose this colour scheme because each of these colours are bold and will catch the audience attention. Also each colour makes each one stand out. Also as I feel it is aimed more at females there are more feminine colours. I feel they have put the image in the middle and then the other half of the article on the other side as then the image is in the middle and stands out more also it makes it look like there is less text. One side of the text is mainly about her and the other side is about her music. The article is an interview. I feel this make it more effective and get more readers. Also there is more pictures to grab the audience attention rather than mostly text. The first part of the article is about the song that got he famous. “I’m Like A Bird struck a chord with listeners. My album could have been forgotten about if it wasn’t for that.” This makes then you think without this song she may not have been famous and where she is. Also this song is very different to R&B so it also shows how she has changed. The second part of the article is when she decided to do R&B music. This is when she done a song with Timberland he is also a big R&B icon. Each one of the questions are in bold and the answer is not in bold. I feel this is so the readers read the questions first and if they like the question they will read the answer. Also the questions are on different things so that the audience do not get bored with the interview. I feel this articles target market is 14-20, this is the age that you start to read about celebrities and also this is when you want to be like them and dress like them as they wear the latest fashion. The genre of this magazine is R&B. The gender for this magazine is both male and female but I feel it is aiming more at females.
