Conventions of a music magazine:

·         Big title so you can notice it.

·         Short, memorable  title.

·         Large, dominant icon, making clear the title of the magazine.

·         Subject’s face can be easily and clearly seen, with eye contact.

·         Large, dominant, full page image of one of the main articles in the magazine (with a band displayed).

·         Bright colour scheme what stand out.

·         Thumbnails of other important articles.

·         Language techniques used to anchor articles.

The first thing you see in the route of they eye is the title. This is because this is the most important thing on the page as they will want the audience to know straight away what the magazine is called as they when they are talking about it to other people they will then mention the name and this will attract more people. The title does follow the conventions as it is short, catchy and memorable this then plays in the readers head and will then remember it. The title is in a bright pink. I feel this is so it stands out and will catch the audience eye and attention. It also makes it stand out from other competition as it is really bright. The type of text they have used is very unique, this is so the audience think that the magazine is unique and will want to read it. The title also has the word ‘rap’ in it that is a type of R&B singing so again will attract the target audience. The next thing you see in the route of the eye in the primary optical area is the celebrities name ‘Christina Milian’, she is a massive music icon for R&B I feel they have put her name in the route of the eye is because then the audience will straight away know that the main article is going to be about her. Also a lot of females look up to her and will want to be like her. The text is also the same colour as the title which is bright pink I think this is because they want this to stand out as people will want to read about her. Pink is also a feminine colour which makes she is a feminine girl. It then goes down to the image. This image is both conventions and not. It is conventional because it is a large dominate icon that takes up the whole page. I feel the reason they have done this is because she then stands out on the page and the target market will notice her and will then want to read about her. The reason it is not conventional is because she is not making eye contact as she is wearing glasses. I feel this still works just as well because she is still facing the camera and also she is wearing glasses so it makes her fashionable. The pose she is doing is with her finger over her lip, this is because her article is about he ‘secret’ so by having her on the front cover with this pose I feel it makes it more personal and then everyone will want to know about her big secret. Also it makes the audience feel like no one else will know only if you read this magazine. The next thing you see in the route of the eye in terminal area is “CLASS OF 2009” and then music icons underneath. They have done this because this was the year this magazine came out so people will want to know about these artists and what they are going to do as soon as possible as they will ant to be the first person to know. The next thing you see in the terminal area is the end of another big article teaser. The teaser is again about a massive music icon that people will want to know about. If the readers know that the magazine is going to be full of articles full of massive article they will want to read this magazine so they are up to date with the latest music. In the first spot it is aimed on Christina Milian hand on her pose this is because the main article is about her big secret so they will want the audience to know that they are not making it up so by having her on the front cover this then makes the audience also makes the audience feel more involved. The 3^rd hotspot is also on her but this on is on her body. I feel this is trying to show her fashion sense so everyone will wan to dress like her as she dresses in the latest trend. The 2^nd and 4^th hotspots are both on each different teasers, I feel this is because these teasers are the main attraction to get the audience attention so they will want the attention on the teasers. The background of the magazine is very unique. Most magazines just have a simple colour but this magazine has a pattern which will make it look more interesting rather than one colour. The only bad thing about this pattern is that it makes some of the writing on the cover hard to read as some of the text is black and the pattern is black and white. I feel if they used colours for this pattern it will make the picture and text look dull but by having it black and white they have made the images and text on the page stand out. The text they have used is mainly all the same. They have used a different type of text of the title. This makes the title stand out the most as it will have to as it has to stand out most on the pages. The text is mainly all black. I feel this is because black is one of the boldest colours so this will make it stand out. The main article is in pink as it is about Christina Milian as this article will have to stand out the most this is the one that will have to advertise the audience to read the magazine as she is on the front cover. The main colour scheme is black, pink, white and purple. I feel they have used these colours as they all stand out. Pink and purple are both feminine colours. I feel they have made feminine colours as there is a female on the front cover and they will want the audience to know that she is feminine. Pink and black is used for the text as these will make it stand out from the background. The purple is used for the background on some important text. This is so this text stands out. Such as ‘My Secret is” I feel the reason they  have done this is because this text is important so the readers know there is a secret and if you buy the magazine you will be able to find out about this secret. The genre of the magazine is R&B/ Hip Hop. The age range for this magazine is 15-20, this because many of these songs have swear words in. Also this is the age wear they are most obsessed with the way they look and will want to be like celebrities. Also this is when they are most involved with music and want to know about the latest tune. The gender for this magazine is both male and female. I feel this is because Christina Milian is aimed for the females but the other teaser such as the Soulja Boy males will be interested. But male might be attract to the female and females might be attracted to the male. I feel by having both genders makes the magazine more popular.
